Benefits and requirements for joining Swiss American Racing
Swiss American Racing offers different levels of benefits & requirements depending on type cyclist and discipline you participate in. At all levels, members are asked to conduct themselves in a way that will reflect positively on our team, Swiss American Bicycles and other sponsors. We are one of the only Cycling Clubs in the Valley that does not charge any annual dues.
Club Membership
A Club Member is a cyclist who participates in any cycling discipline for joy of cycling. Whether He/She rides on Road or on the Mountain, these cyclists enjoy riding for general fitness and the social aspects of riding with like minded people. They generally ride a few Charity or Cause events a year and are frequent participants in our team organized rides.
Club Members receive shop discounts from Swiss American Bicycles as well as discounts from our other Team Sponsors. Club Riders are required to purchase one team kit with our current sponsors each year. Wear the kit to Team Organized rides and events. And, volunteer at our team organized race/event.
Mountain Bike Racer
Our Mountain Bike Racing Team is one of the most successful teams in Arizona. The team is consistently one of the top 5 teams in the Arizona State Mountain Bike Point Series run by the Mountain Biking Association of Arizona (MBAA).
Mountain Bike Racers receive support at all of the AZ State Championship races as well as some of the other large events in Arizona. Support includes team sponsored breakfast, BBQ Lunch, and Dinner prepared by our Team Chef, Steve, where the venue permits. Support also includes bottle feeds, & light mechanical support at an event. In addition, Mountain Bike Racers receive larger discounts on parts and service than a Club Member from Swiss American Bicycles, as well as priority placement on repairs from the shop. This means you will be back on the trail faster than if you brought your bike to any other shop in the valley!
To be considered a Mountain Bike Racer, one must participate in a minimum of 8 races a year, purchase one team kit with our current sponsors each year, and be a member of the MBAA. Racers must wear the kit as much as possible and especially to team organized rides, events, and races. Racers must also volunteer at our team organized race/event.
Road Bike Racer
While Swiss American Racing started as a Mountain Bike Team this does not mean we are inept on our Road Bikes. The camaraderie that has been fostered by our mountain bike riders shines in a team driven environment like road racing. Our road racers have won multiple stage races like the “Valley of the Sun” where a solid team is necessary to capture and defend a leader’s jersey. We have also won pan flat time trials, hilly road races, and multiple criteriums.
Our benefit package for road racers has fluctuated year to year depending on the level of sponsorship we have received from our secondary sponsors. Examples of benefits we have done in the past have included; hotel fees for select out of town races, crash replacement on team kits, free team kits for successful race season, and pro deals on frame / fork sets and components for top contributors to our team. In addition, Road Bike Racers receive larger discounts on parts and service than a Club Member from Swiss American Bicycles, as well as priority placement on repairs from the shop. This means you will be back on the road faster than if you brought your bike to any other shop in the valley!

Other Benefits
Organized Road Rides – Saturday Road Rides leave from the Coffee & Bean on the South West corner of the 101 and Cave Creek Road. These rides typically go up into North Phoenix and Scottsdale. Start times vary with the sunrise. Check the calendar of our web-site for start times.
Sunday’s our Road Ride leaves from Swiss American Bicycles. Ride times and routes vary. Check the calendar of the web-sites for start times. During “Silent Sundays” at South Mountain, our Sunday ride typically heads down to go up this awesome climb.
Organized Mountain Bike Rides – Nearly every weekend our team conducts an organized Mountain Bike ride. These rides are lead by some of our most experienced riders with duration, difficulty, and locations changing frequently. Check the calendar of our web-site for start times and more information. If you are unsure if your ability matches the description, contact the ride leader.
Team Sponsored Camping Trips – If you haven’t noticed, it gets HOT in Phoenix in the summer time. This can put a big damper on your ride time. To offset this downer, the team frequently puts on camping trips in the cool pines of Flagstaff, Williams, Prescott, Payson, and the White Mountains in the summer.
Annual Pilgrimage to Moab – every year in late September our team makes a pilgrimage to Moab, the Mountain Bike Mecca of the World. This trip is typically a long weekend and includes rides on trails like Slick Rock, Amasa Back, and the Shuttle Ride up into the Lassalle Mountains to ride down the Porcupine Rim.
